Last day of your life ...

A few days ago, someone on my organization's bulletin board posted that she wanted some ideas for a write-up for a topic "What will you do if u come to know that today is the last day of your life?" ... At first it struck me as a senseless topic for a write-up for an event (must be some weird kind of event to have such a topic for write-up) ... but then gradually the topic started intriguing me ... I was busy with meetings the whole day but this question lingered in the back of my mind the entire time ... & by the time to bed I actually realized that there would be very few more thought-provocating topics than this. What if really you came to know that it was the last day of your life ??? There will be a zillion things that you would still want to do in life …

A couple of situations come to my mind straight away ...
  • All the prisoners who have been sentenced to death. What must be going through their mind & heart too? Each moment after the sentence, they exactly know the number of moments they will continue to be real and then just a memory. When I talk about prisoners; don’t just think about the hoodlums and antisocial elements; but a lot of our freedom fighters were also given death sentences.
  • Zaheer (Jimmy Shergill's character) in Munnabhai MBBS; the instant he comes to know that he is going to die soon, he realizes that there is nothing he has still done in his life ... was just busy taking care of all responsibilities and now he was facing death with still wanting to do so much in life.
Now getting back to the crux of this post ... what I would do if I knew today is the last day of my life ... hmmmm ... maybe play a cricket match for the last time (and perform like the man of the match of course :)) ... or maybe watch Andaz Apna Apna one last time (am sure it would already be over 100 times by then) … and identify some friend to beat the shit outta him .... (Gogo saab, main marne se pehle ek baar isko peetnaa chahtaa hoon ...) .... or maybe spam the scrap books of all my friends on orkut or send a virus to all of them (this one is bringing out the always curbed sadistic side of me ...) or maybe complete the project report that I have to deliver next day (I have always been very responsible & dedicated when it comes to work …(having a angelic smile on my face)) … or maybe … forget it …don’t want to get into the sentimental stuff…

I think the best way to avoid this situation is to believe that “Today is the last day of some of your life …” .... Doesn't this simple quote say a lot ???? (No no ... I am not the kind of guy who seeks art of living sessions :) ... just smitten by the genuineness of this quote ...

And yes .... calling someone a monkey is not a racist remark and Ponting is a cry baby and Steve Bucknor should retire ... (how could I not write something abt the biggest cricketing controversy?) ....

ciao friends,
